A new anime is on the horizon this fall season; based on the popular Shounen Jump manga, “Undead Unluck.” Despite its extreme visuals, this manga has been running in “Weekly Shōnen Jump” (published by SHUEISHA) since 2020. It gained quick recognition by snagging the top spot in the comics category of the “Next Coming Manga Award” in the same year. Now, the exciting news is that it’s finally getting an anime adaptation, courtesy of Studio David Production. The recently released trailer showcases the stunning animation and action sequences that capture the thrilling chaos of this story.

About Undead Unluck

A girl named Fuuko decides to end her life after finishing her favorite manga. Being burdened by the “Unluck” supernatural ability that inadvertently caused the death of more than 200 people, she spent a decade all alone haunted by the vary thought. Her ability brings bad luck to anyone who comes in contact with her. Just when she tries to put herself to rest for good, an uncanny man makes an appearance. Someone who is seeking death, cannot die. Further more, his destroyed body parts & internal organs regenerate instantly. He decides to team up with her to find since her ability might lead him to what he desires. Later, they encounter more individuals with supernatural abilities that negate the rules of the world. Hence, they are called Negators. They also face creatures known as UMA (Unidentified Mysterious Animals) that are natural enemies of the Negators. Some Negators form organizations with different agendas; leading to battles filled with intriguing mysteries and lore. The main duo discover them their journey as they confront even divine forces to change their fates.

The appeal of Undead Unluck is that it’s sheer insanity. It doesn’t follow the typical shounen template and does things its own bloody chaotic way. It has interesting lore, quirky and likable characters, uncanny power system that’s unique to each characters, and the casually brutal fight scenes. It’s definitely one of the most anticipated show this season and I can’t wait for it to start.
