Fall 2023 Anime – The Season of Fantasy

Well, half the year of 2023 has passed, a lot of fantasy anime has lined up, including some Isekai. But the best part is we actually made it this far. This whole year has been packed with a lot of amazing shows and more is incoming. Let’s take a look at the most anticipated anime of Fall 2023.

New Shows

We’re starting off with the new entries this season. Some even have the potential to be the smash hit everyone’s waiting for, and some that may go under the radar.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

Sousou no Frieren

Notes: Well… Get ready to cry everyone. Click here for more details. The first episode is going to be 2 hours long.

Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange

Megumi no Daigo: Kyuukoku no Orange

Notes: Man, Anime is doing everything these days. We’ll have construction working anime someday. Jokes Aside, this looks pretty promising. With Brain’s Base working on it, this might deliver well and show some harrowing scenes from a firefighter’s life.

Overtake!

Notes: An anime about car racing in such a long time since “Initial D”. I’m most definitely in for the ride (pun intended 😏)

Ragna Crimson

Notes: A bit over-hyped IMO with a revenge plot… Might be worth it, we’ll see.

Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions

Kamonohashi Ron no Kindan Suiri

Notes: Me love some mystery as my seasoning.

A Certain Middle-Aged Man’s VRMMO Activity Log

Toaru Ossan no VRMMO Katsudouki

Notes: Heard some good things about it but, do middle aged people think like that for real?!

Yuzuki-san Chi no Yonkyoudai

Notes: Clichéd characters but really in a wholesome story.

Berserk of Gluttony

Boushoku no Berserk

Notes: The trailer looks good. But it’s just another “loner being the most popular guy” story.

My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer

Boukensha ni Naritai to Miyako ni Deteitta Musume ga S-Rank ni Natteta

Notes: It’s trying to break the cliché of over-powered isekai protagonist but DAMN, why the gotta come up with such long title!?!

Under Ninja

Notes: This is probably the most awaited show this season. It’s grim, gritty, hilarious, and weird asf.

The Kingdoms of Ruin

Hametsu no Oukoku

Notes: This one has an interesting concept that we all thought about once. But the visuals might be heavy for some people. It’s giving me “Akame ga Kill” vibe.

Undead Unluck

Notes: Yep, this the show for this season. Another must-watch. Hopefully they don’t disappoint. Click here more info.

Protocol: Rain

Bokura no Ameiro Protocol

Notes: Make money by playing video games… for real.

Tearmoon Empire

Tearmoon Teikoku Monogatari: Dantoudai kara Hajimaru, Hime no Tensei Gyakuten Story

Notes: They finally did a good job: They shortened the title in English 😆. It’s a story of dramatic irony, meaning the MC knows she’ll die and she must do anything to prevent that.

A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special

Kikansha no Mahou wa Tokubetsu desu

Notes: Give this a watch, but some please stop with the long-esque naming.

The Apothecary Diaries

Kusuriya no Hitorigoto

Notes: An anime that’s been in making for a while, like 3 years. Hope this lives up to the work that’s been put into.

Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Idoman to su

Notes: Whether it’s gonna be fun, or gonna be a complete wastage.

Totto-chan, the Little Girl at the Window

Madogiwa no Totto-chan

Notes: A fun little, light-hearted film with Ghibli aesthetic. Dunno anything behind the scenes but it looks interesting.

Kitarou Tanjou: Gegege no Nazo

Notes: The film is adapting the Manga GeGeGe no Kitarō, which has some interesting concepts. The mythology aspect always intrigues me in a different level. Looking forward to it.

Pluto

Notes: This honestly took me by surprise. Based on the legendary classic Manga “Astro Boy”, created by the mangaka of “20th Century Boys“, which one of the greatest Manga of all time, this is gonna be a wild ride for sure. This is definitly a must watch for this season.

Sequels

Now, the much-awaited sequels. There are some surprising returns and some making the quick comeback.

FLCL: Shoegaze

Notes: How is this still going?! And big-name studios are working on it too?!? Anyway, it was recently announced, like 2 days ago. It’s a spin-off. IDK how the continuity works in this series.

Captain Tsubasa Season 2: Junior Youth-hen

Notes: Another classic series that’s still going strong from all the way back in 1983.

The Eminence in Shadow

Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!

Notes: The meme show is continuing onward. BASED.

Tokyo Revengers: Tenjiku-hen

Notes: Not sure how the anime is currently looking, but it’s great to see its continuing. More info here.

The Ancient Magus’ Bride

Mahoutsukai no Yome 

Notes: Nice to see this continuing as well.

The Rising of the Shield Hero

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari

Notes: This season’s looking promising. It’s hard to imagine a Kinema Citrus anime would be bad in general. Hopefully they deliver well.

Goblin Slayer II

Notes: Ahh sh**, here we go again…

Spy x Family Season 2

Notes: The best show is back in business.

The Faraway Paladin: The Lord of Rust Mountains

Saihate no Paladin: Tetsusabi no Yama no Ou

Notes: An underrated show. Season 1 aired a year ago, hopefully it can impress people with the second season.

Dr. Stone: New World Part 2

Notes: Let’s gooooo!!!! For detailed information, click here.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse

Nanatsu no Taizai: Mokushiroku no Yonkishi

Notes: They decided to push this title forward, even though it felt like they didn’t care about the anime at all in the previous seasons. Click here for more details.

Dead Mount Death Play Part 2

Notes: This garnered some praise and now continuing in the same year of 2023.

After-School Hanako-kun

Houkago Shounen Hanako-kun

Notes: A short anime until the second season, I guess. Details are discussed here. If you don’t know this anime, click here.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Coleus’ Dream

Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken: Coleus no Yume

Notes: The 3 episodes OVA will cover the story in between season 1 and 2. No release date though.

Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid

Seishun Buta Yarou wa Randoseru Girl no Yume wo Minai

Notes: Infor about this is here. Releasing the sequels in movie format is a great a idea but some people might not notice.

Spy x Family Code: White

Notes: More awesomeness!

Honorable Mention

Some Anime that do deserve some attention. I couldn’t put them in the list since it’s already gotten massive. Check them out if you have the time or you are interested. Migi & Dali; a story with eerie uncomfortable vide with mystery aspect. The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent Season 2; a lighthearted fantasy romance anime (I highly recommend checking this out). Arknights: Perish in Frost; an action anime with survival aspect. Bullbuster; a start of a Mecha anime by the looks of it, the key-visual looks really cool. SHY; an Anime with a robot girl. Gundam Build Metaverse; another addition to the Gundam franchise that’s kids friendly. Potion-danomi de Ikinobimasu! (I Shall Survive Using Potions!); another lighthearted fantasy show that has a cute look to it, definitely worth checking out. Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning; another Digimon film focusing the next-in-line from the original series Dai. Yaneura no Rudger (The Imaginary); an Anime film with beautiful animation and also with world-ending stake as plot, might be worthwhile. Hokkyoku Hyakkaten no Concierge-san (The Concierge); A visually interesting anime film that gives Spirited Away vibe. Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta… Movie; (boy that’s some title imported from the long ring long island) the movie from the same series. Girls & Panzer: Saishuushou Part 4; this is pretty hilarious and some cuteness fun to boot. Koukaku Kidoutai: SAC_2045 – Saigo no Ningen; the new Ghost in the Shell movie but in CG.

Conclusion

Boy, that’s a lot of anime to go through. I had no idea this would turn out like this. Even in the HM, there’s way too many Anime with the potential to be good.
