Here, we’ll explore all the games delayed or shut down in 2024. Some were heartbreaking, some well-deserved, and others just a matter of time. Either way, these games were pulled from stores, had their servers shut down, or never saw the light of day.
1. Concord
- Developer: Firewalk Studios
- Publishers: Sony Interactive Entertainment, PlayStation Studios, PlayStation Publishing LLC
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows
- Genre: Hero shooter
- Release Date: August 20, 2024
We’re starting off with this, huh… After 8 years of development and 400 millions dollars spent, this game flopped so hard upon release that they announced the game will be shut down after 14 days. The game was uninspiring and pushing through several production dramas only to be hammered down. Don’t know if I should feel sorry for it or just laugh it off. Only if it released back then, maybe things wouldn’t be so harsh.
2. The Day Before
- Developer: Fntastic
- Publishers: Mytona, Mytona Fntastic
- Release Date: December 7, 2023
- Platforms: Microsoft Windows
- Genre: Role-playing game, Adventure game, Survival horror, Third-person shooter, Casual game, Racing
Boy, this game had it coming. It’s an all out scam. The game advertized a lot but who knows, they all were fake. The 2 devs who started all this bailed leaving the whole team behind after announcements and announcements. This game was the top game in Steam wish list, for crying out loud. And let this be a lesson not to fall for pre-orders. The game was pulled down from the stores in January this year.
3. Hood: Outlaws & Legends
- Developer: Sumo Digital Ltd.
- Publisher: Pullup Entertainment
- Release date: May 7, 2021
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, GeForce Now, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One
- Genres: Role-playing game, Shooter Video Game, Fighting game, Massively Multiplayer, Adventure
Now, this one was a fun game. It had interesting elements, mechanics, enemies, maps, etc. It’s sad to see this game passing on in February this year. I guess it was too much to handle for an extended time.
4. Blue Protocol
- Developer: BANDAI NAMCO Online Inc, BANDAI NAMCO Studios
- Publishers: Bandai Namco Holdings, Amazon Games
- Release Date: June 14, 2023
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows
- Genre: Massively multiplayer online game, Adventure game
Another sad death of a much anticipated game. It’s free-to-play with gacha in it. Seems to be that the devs had little experience doing gacha with MMO. It was shut down in January this year. RIP.
6. Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland
- Developer: Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft
- Publishers: Ubisoft
- Release Date: Cancelled
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One
- Genre: Third Person Shooter, Adventure game
Ubisoft’s negligence truely knows no bound. This game was being handled by a small team then it got canceled since the company wants to pursue their own agendas (like making 50 Assassin’s Creed games or whatever). For once, this had some potential if enough care was put into it.
7. Codename Kestrel
- Developer: Remedy
- Publishers: Remedy
- Platforms: N/A
- Release Date: Cancelled
Remedy’s first multiplayer game got canceled this year after some development. It’s supposed to have characters from all of their IPs with similar gameplay. They probably realized it won’t do as good so they had to abandon it. Could’ve been fun though. RIP.
8. XDefiant
- Developer: Ubisoft, Ubisoft San Francisco
- Publishers: Ubisoft
- Release Date: May 21, 2024
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, GeForce Now, Amazon Luna
- Genre: First-person shooter, Multiplayer
Another Ubisoft game that they axed themselved. The game had it really going at first. It was just another Call of Duty clone with little twists. As usual, they game was broken, and had tons of bugs and glitches that were infuriating. Bet they got tired of hearing complaints and decided to pull the plug.
9. Crime Boss: Rockay City
- Developer: INGAME STUDIOS, Ingame Studios, A. S.
- Publishers: 505 Games
- Release Date: March 28, 2023
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, GeForce Now, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows
- Genre: First-person shooter, Adventure game
Another one to bite the dust this year. It’s a game with lots of celebrities but zero polish. Aside from the techinical issues, the game is just bearbones soulless. Good thing this got shut down and hopefully everyone forgets this ever existed.
10. Realm Royale
- Developer: Hi Rez Studios, Heroic Leap Games
- Publishers: Hi Rez Studios
- Release Date: June 5, 2018
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, GeForce Now, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One
- Genre: Battle royale game, Shooter Video Game
This one’s a sad passing of a game that could’ve been great but was overshadowed but the other contemporaries. It had a dedicated community and seenmn some support. After much struggle, the plug was pulled.
11. Divine Knockout
- Developer: Red Beard Games
- Publishers: Hi Rez Studios
- Release Date: December 6, 2022
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One
- Genre: Fighting game, Platform game
Another battle royale game that went under after much hype. The issues with this game could’ve gotten fixed and it’s unique aspect was pretty fun.
12. The Crew
- Developer: Ubisoft Ivory Tower, Ubisoft Reflections
- Publishers: Ubisoft
- Release Date: December 2, 2014
- Platforms: PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox 360, Xbox One
- Genre: Racing
So much for a game from an older generation. This has been runnning for almost a decade and had it’s dedicated fans. Guess it was just about time this went off as well.
13. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance
- Developer: Invoke Studios
- Publishers: Wizards of the Coast
- Release Date: June 21, 2021
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One
- Genre: Action role-playing game, Adventure game, Fighting game, Shooter Video Game
This taught a lesson that a board game should stay a board game. Who am I kidding? It had potential but came out as a cookie cutter RPG. No one seems to be interested in it hence it shut down.
14. Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Developer: Ubisoft, Ubisoft Quebec, Ubisoft Montreal
- Publishers: Ubisoft
- Release Date: February 14, 2025
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, Mac operating systems
- Genre: Role-playing Video Game, Action-adventure game, Platform game, Adventure
I sure hope this never see the light of day. Despite all the controversies and outrageous takes on an important historic period, they’ll still do anything to release it and people will buy it no matter what. It’s a fools world we live in. The game’s supposed to be out this December but inevitably got delayed.
15. Ark 2
- Developer: Studio Wildcard, Grove Street Games
- Publishers: Studio Wildcard
- Release Date: N/A
