Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction, or Dededede for short, is easily one of the most anticipated anime of 2024. Initially, it started as two-part movies of nearly two hours’ duration. However, it soon began its TV airing with 18 episodes, plus an Episode 0 as a prologue, adding more scenes and story elements. So far, three episodes have aired, including Episode 0, and boy, did it show a ton to unpack.
What is DeDeDeDe about (Synopsys)

The story follows a highchool girl named Kadode Koyama and her best friend Ouran Nakagawa. Their lives are potrayed satirically in a pretty brutal world where everyone loves to take benifits from everything around them. A subtle commentary on how the real world is ruled by capitalism. Then, they are going through the basic teenage crisis; having to deal with love life, family problems, future career, etc. All that tangles up with an alien invasion that throws the entire world in chaos.

The aliens don’t seem to be showing any apparent hostality but occasionally causing damage due to ignorance of this new world they are in. It’s the humans who are overun by fear & panic unleashing all sorts of upproar, even nuking an entire city in order to get rid of the aliens who just bearly got here. Instead of analysing and observing the current situation and properly taking measures, they all choose the path to death and destruction. Which eventually leads factions, civil wars, teritorial disputes, foreign intervention and so on, as we’ve seen in the prologue episode. It’s an irony to see such unfolding when we know how things will end up in. A metaphore for how humans are exposed to their true selves when pushed to the brink. And the cutesy artsyle perfectly compliments that darker side
Briefly Exploring the Intricacies

There are more layers in it then it lets on. There is a darker side of the world that’s just waiting to be revealed. Sometimes Ouran spits out the obvious in the most shameless way possible like how Kadode lusts over her teacher, how the government is wasting the tax money, how being fat is a dumb thing, or sometimes the show alludes to the Area 51. Dededede exposes everything and everyone.
Aside from all the subliminal and metaphorical aspects, the show is well made in terms of quality, animation, storyboarding, and voice acting; it’s all top-notch. Production +h. neiled every scene so far. All those aspects I broke down are just from episode 0, 1, & 2 and more is about to be revealed in the future ones. It doesn’t shy away from showing the darker and grittier side of the world but also the lightheartedness of the main duo. They are doing their best despite how bad the world is turning into and I think that’s the message of this story. Keep going no matter what. Everyone has it worst more or less. We just gotta be ourselves.

The Opening and Ending are amazing as well and foreshadow many upcoming events in the anime. I haven’t gotten the chance to break it down completely or I can with the given information, but pretty sure it has some sick metaphors.
After Thought
So yeah, this is definitely one of the must watch anime this season. It’s one of those shows that’s entertaining but also leaves a sour thought in everyone’s mind about life and gives existential crisis. The prologue left a lot of intrigue on it’s own but then the main episodes leaving more quastions than answers. Guess we can only wait and see what horror it unfolds.
