Here’s all the games that were revealed at PlayStation’s State of Play, May 2024. Made a post about Xbox’s Games Showcase earlier so it’s natural to highlight a competitor. Let’s get unpacking.
Table of Contents
Concord – Reveal Cinematic Trailer
Starting off with a new game, a PvP hero-based first-person shooter. It looks charismatic and fun, and cinematic video like these will be released filling in for the fore since there’ll be no story mode. It’s being developed by Firewalk Studios and set to release in August. A beta will be out in August in PS5 and PC. A gameplay trailer is revealed later on.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins – Announcement Trailer
A new entry in the long running Dynasty Warriors franchise coming out in 2025. It’s basically the game that invented the “musou” genre where the gameplay is to beatup hoards of enemies in a hack and slash beatdown. It’s nice to see this return after 7 years of gap.
Infinity Nikki – Gameplay Trailer
Next is a sequel to a Chinese mobile games series. It’s pretty obsecure, coming into the mainstream of gaming, albeit a refreshing and unique take. It reminds me of Barbie a little bit. Check it out if you are into sissy stuff.
Ballad of Antara – Announcement Trailer
Another new game revealed at the event that feels a lot like Nioh, kind of souls-like. Although the character design is a bit too dazzling for my test, the gameplay is a lot intriguing. It’s coming to PS5 in 2025.
Alien Rogue Incursion – First Gameplay
it’s a first person VR, horror game that looks kind of terrifying in the trailer, NGL. It sort of reminds me of Alien Isolation but now it’s in VR. No date is announced.
Marvel Rivals – PlayStation Closed Beta Announce Trailer
What can I say, another Overwatch clone with Marvel theme and third-person. We’ll see how this goes when the closed beta drops on PS5 in July.
Where Winds Meet – Announce Trailer
A Chinese, mythology based open-world action game being developed by EverStone Studio. It’s kind of semi-souls-like type since it has that kind of boss battles but you will have more freedom than the souls games. You can also create your character and select class. The trailer looked cool and interesting. A demo gameplay was released last year. Take a look here if you are interested.
God of War Ragnarök PC – Announce Trailer
PC gamers can finally rest easy now that Ragnarök is coming down to their alley. It’s nice for PlayStation for making this happen and hopefully they won’t mess this up like The Last of Us. The first game was very well optimized and ran smoothy. So did the Spider-Man games. It’ll be available on September 19.
Path of Exile 2 – Console Announcement
This dungeon-crawler game is getting a sequel. It’s similar to Diablo games but has it’s own unique identity and mechanics. It’s popular for a reason.
Skydance’s Behemoth – First Gameplay
Another VR game that looks promising. It reminded me of Skyrim but I really shouldn’t compare. It might end up being a lot better than we anticipate. The release date wasn’t revealed.
Monster Hunter Wilds – 1st Trailer
Monster Hunter is getting another game and this one’s looking better than the last one. Hope this adds more to the table gameplay-wise as well.
Silent Hill 2 Remake – Release Date Trailer
One of the best psychological horror game is being remade. Honestly, I’m skeptical on this. I don’t see how it can bring back the horror it originally managed to pull off. Something about the old graphics that just works and the limitations on the old game automatically set everything up. Newer graphics and gameplay is just never gonna be able to redo that and it’s gonna look pretty just for the sake of it. Silent Hill 2 never really need a remake. It’s coming out in October 8 this year, BTW.
Until Dawn Remastered – Gameplay Trailer
Another game that doesn’t really need a remaster. It already looks great and there’s nothing to improve in terms of gameplay. It’s just a simple walking movie where you can interect with. Anyways, hope the animation looks better instead of just an upscale.
Concord – Gameplay Trailer
The gameplay trailer of the aforementioned Concord game.
Astro Bot – Announcement Trailer
Finally the cherry on top, Astro Bot that should’ve been out along side the launch of PS5. Astro’s Playroom is a classic in PS4 and beloved by all. Now a massively upgraded sequel is out in September 6th this year.
Conclusion
That’s all for this State of Play. A lot of sequels and some remake which led to a bleak feedback from the fans. PlayStation have been leaning of remakes and remasters lately a lot for a while. No wonder everyone’s getting bored. Anyways, I appreciate some of the reveals here and looking forward to them.
