At AnimeJapan 2025, the special stage for Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan – Kyoto Douran delivered exciting news: a third season is in the works. Produced by LIDENFILMS, the series previously aired its 24-episode first season on Fuji TV’s noitaminA block in Summer 2023, followed by a second season that premiered on October 9. Both seasons were simulcast on Crunchyroll with subtitles and an English dub.
Based on Nobuhiro Watsuki’s acclaimed historical drama manga, originally serialized from 1994 to 1999 in Weekly Shounen Jump, the anime builds on a rich legacy. The franchise also includes the Hokkaido Arc sequel manga launched in 2016 and earlier adaptations by Studio Deen and Gallop, along with OVAs by Aniplex.
