Epic animation, well-paced storytelling, likable characters, surreal music, and an immersive world—these are just a few ways to describe Shangri-La Frontier, an anime that flew under the radar for many viewers. Now it returns for another season, picking up right where it left off and expanding further into an amazing adventure.

First Impressions on Shangri-La Frontier S2
The beginning is subtle; after a quick recap, the story picks up right where last season left off. A new character is introduced, hinting at something larger that holds significance for the plot. We’re treated to a brief action scene, showcasing the amazing animation, well-choreographed fight sequences, and a grounded power system. Then, the story shifts back to exposition, which remains intriguing, especially given how deeply we’ve explored this world.
I appreciate how the show takes its time to build up certain elements, and it pays off effectively. In Season 1, we caught only glimpses of certain aspects and characters; now we get to explore those elements and meet characters who will play much larger roles in upcoming events. The calmer moments feel earned, especially after the multi-episode boss fight in the last season, and they set the stage for even more intense battles ahead. There are still many mysteries looming in the world of ShanFro, especially concerning the enigmatic Seven Colossi.
ShanFro S2 Opening and Ending
Boy, we had no idea we were in for such a treat! LiSA performs the opening song, “Queen,” while Otoha delivers the ending song, “Anya no Dancer: Dancer in the Dark Night.” The opening is pure hype, capturing excitement while foreshadowing everything that’s to come in the current arc. Meanwhile, the ending is funky and gives us a moment to unwind after the thrill of each episode.
About Shangri-La Frontier Season 2
The show is airing every Sunday. Crunchyroll is streaming the series outside of East Asia. Muse Communication licensed the series in Southeast Asia. There will be 25 episodes this season as well, meaning the next six months will be blessed with such goodness every week.
A video game was announced by Netmarble back in 2022, in which I wouldn’t put much faith in consider since it’s gonna be another dumb mobile game where you just tap and things happen… Not that exciting in my opinion.

After Thought
It’s great to see ShanFro return so soon after Season 1 wrapped up in March this year. This is definitely one of those anime that leaves a lasting impression. The manga’s popularity soared as the first season aired, and it’s clear why: the show is genuinely fun, steering clear of the typical tropes in fantasy or video-game-based anime while delivering well-deserved fan service. Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 is a must-watch this fall 2024.
