Let’s get right to the chase, Rurouni Kenshin also known as Samurai X is getting a remake. I am happy for it (considering my internet persona) but a bit skeptical about this as I am towards all the remakes. Hence, I stayed quiet. The reason being how modern shows operates nowadays. The restriction they had back in the day is nothing but a joke now and they add mature content (some are more questionable) that ruins the whole experience. It’s like spitting a drop in a gallon of milk. They already have screwed up in that Kyoto arc remake which was released in 2 parts special IIRC. They don’t need to show all the crap to point out certain aspect; The story is decent enough. In fact, the story one of the greatest fictions ever that inspired serval manga authors by the likes of Eiichiro Oda, Masashi Kishimoto, and many more. Also, modern shows come with modern problems such as episode limit, rushing, badly pacing, etc. Also, the controversy surrounding the author Nobuhiro Watsuki, of also which I have mixed feelings.
Studio Liden Films is adapting this, which have some great works done under their belt, but they are also responsible for the infamous Berserk anime CG animation. Some trailers dopped recently and it’s been announced to start airing from July 6, 2023. The animation looks great, it’s by far the best look this show has ever gotten. It’s vibrant and fluid. It seems, it will cover the Tokyo arc, up to when Hajime Saito shows up, the former captain of the Shinsengumi 3rd unit. The main fear lies how they will approach this. The masterful story boarding, pacing, narrative, etc. or is it just going to be mishmash of sakuga with zero substance? I hope they can do justice adapting this wonderful story.
