Isekai anime have been the highlights of the year. But Moonlit Fantasy didn’t made much of noise despite what “moonlight” it deserved. With a great story, action packed sequences, and a cast of great characters; Moonlit Fantasy is an anime that warrants your attention.
Plot:
Makoto Misumi, a high school student, is summoned into a fantasy world by the deity Tsukuyomi in order to become a hero. He is kicked to the edge of the planet by the Goddess who rules the world, who is not as happy to see him there. Makoto is free to choose his own path, according to Tsukuyomi, once the other Goddess deserts him.
What’s To Like?
- Animation: Really good animation. Character design is very distinctive. The action is the real highlight of the show, smooth and colorful, embrace it.
- Characters: A great cast of likeable and different characters. They are beautiful, quirky, funny, and full of flaws.
- World Building: A very serious point for isekai’s and this anime totally gets it. It introduces us with the world in the first episode and then slowly builds upon it.
- Comedy: The show heavily relies on it’s comedy and it delivers. The jokes are funny, not forced and lands a good laugh.
What’s Not To Like?
Lack of proper antagonist: Seriously, this show would be much better with the presence of a good villain with a goal to destroy the world or defeat our MC or something similar. I was hoping a big reveal kind of thing at the end of the show.
But, to my disappointment, there was nothing.
The show has antagonists, but since our MC is overpowered, they don’t feel like a real challenge.
Conclusion:
Many people are complaining about it being generic, but what’s wrong with being generic, if it’s done right. The show takes the generic Isekai tropes and does them well. It’s like the mix of world building from Tensura Slime, comedy inspired by Konosuba and plot of you average Isekai.
With an announced second season, this show is really a “moonlight” to behold.
