About Makeine Too Many Losing Heroines

Makeine Too Many Losing Heroines! (Make Heroine ga Oosugiru!), also known as Makeine, is a Japanese light novel series written by Takibi Amamori and illustrated by Imigimuru. Set in Toyohashi, Aichi—Amamori’s hometown—the story follows a high school boy who becomes involved with several girls who have been heartbroken after being rejected by their love interests. The series began its publication under Shogakukan’s Gagaga Bunko imprint in July 2021. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Itachi, began serialization on Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday website and MangaOne app in April 2022.

The anime adaptation aired from July to September 2024 with a total of 12 episodes, produced by A-1 Pictures, with a second season officially confirmed.

The plot centers on Kazuhiko Nukumizu, a self-proclaimed “background character” who accidentally witnesses Anna Yanami, a popular girl in his class, being rejected by her childhood friend. Kazuhiko deems her a “losing heroine” and soon finds himself involved with Anna, along with other girls who share similar heartbreaks.

The anime series was announced in December 2023 and aired on Tokyo MX and other networks from July 14 to September 29, 2024. The opening theme song, “Tsuyogaru Girl”, was performed by BotchiBoromaru featuring Mossa of Necry Talkie. Multiple ending theme songs were performed by the “losing heroines,” each reflecting their characters’ emotions. The first ending theme was a cover of Hitomi’s “Love 2000” by Hikaru Tono as Anna Yanami, the second was a cover of Kylee’s “Crazy For You” by Shion Wakayama as Lemon Yakishio, and the third was a cover of Yui’s “Feel My Soul” by Momoka Terasawa as Chika Komari.

On April 6, 2025, during an event for the anime, a second season was officially announced.
