My Happy Marriage Story

My Happy Marriage is essentially a Cinderella tale. The protagonist, Miyo, is forced to live like a servant after her mother’s passing and her father’s remarriage. She quietly endures as her life crumbles bit by bit, watching her stepsister get spoiled like a princess while she is treated as an outsider. Everything she holds dear, including memories of her late mother, is discarded like trash, making her feel as if she is no longer a part of the family. Ultimately, she is arranged to marry a military officer known for his ruthlessness—an event that unexpectedly becomes the turning point in her life.
Set in a mythological Japan where supernatural powers and entities exist, a person’s status is determined by the strength of their spiritual abilities. Miyo, lacking any apparent powers, is cast aside. However, after moving to her fiancé’s household, she finds an unexpected source of happiness. The man known for his cold heart turns out to be the kindest person she has ever met, giving her a sense of belonging for the first time. Yet, her past trauma continues to haunt her.
Later, Miyo discovers that she is a descendant of a powerful spiritual lineage, leading to the awakening of her latent abilities. This revelation not only makes her a target for scheming individuals but also gives her the courage to fight for the one she loves. Her unique ability to enter others’ dreams becomes a formidable weapon against adversity, ultimately transforming her past nightmares into her greatest strength.
Later on, her spiritual power awakens after she learns that she’s a descendance of a powerful spiritual ability wielder which made her a target for the praying eyes but it also helped her finding the courage to fight for the one she loves. Her ability to invade someone else’s dream helped her fight off an adversity and come out on top. In the end, her nightmares became her strongest weapon.
My Happy Marriage Season 2 – First Impressions

A new chapter in Miyo’s life unfolds after the events of the first season. The first major challenge? Meeting the mother-in-law—a universally nerve-wracking experience. As expected, her fiancé’s mother does not welcome her warmly, believing Miyo to be beneath the family’s standards. Without hesitation, she assigns Miyo to household chores, treating her no differently than the maids. However, Miyo is no longer the timid girl she once was. She follows every command, but this time, not as a powerless servant. Her resilience shines through, and she further proves her worth by saving a man from turning into a demon.
Her actions impress the mother-in-law, leading to a reluctant acceptance—though she still pushes Miyo to become more resolute. This season skillfully integrates spiritual elements into character development, making it more than just a love story. It’s a journey of overcoming inner weakness, taking initiative, and protecting loved ones.
As the season progresses, a new and significant threat emerges. This mysterious figure casually appears and disappears, posing not only a personal danger to Miyo but also a global one. How Miyo and her allies will handle this growing menace remains to be seen.
The Visuals and Sounds

As expected from studio Kinema Citrus (known for Made in Abyss and The Rising of the Shield Hero), the visuals are breathtaking. The background settings resemble moving paintings, whether it’s a moonlit night, a bright sunny day with animated crowds and vehicles, or trees swaying in the wind. Each scene is crafted with meticulous detail, creating an immersive experience. The action animation is also well-executed, complementing the storytelling beautifully.
The sound design enhances the experience further. Environmental sounds breathe life into the scenes, while special effects amplify the impact of action sequences. The music, composed by Evan Call (Violet Evergarden, Josee, the Tiger and the Fish, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End), adds emotional depth to key moments, creating a truly surreal atmosphere.
Final Thoughts
My Happy Marriage is undoubtedly one of the standout anime this season. It not only delivers a captivating romance but also incorporates compelling character development and supernatural elements seamlessly. With Season 2 off to a strong start, we eagerly anticipate how the story will climax.
